The Government Addiction - 854 Words
Government dependency is replacing the illegal drug trade as the most destructive force in our country. The drug kingpins are the politicians we elect, who then appoint their bureaucrats to act as the pushers and enforcers. We welcome them into our homes, neighborhoods, schools, businesses, and allow them to infiltrate every corner of society. The pushers feeding this addiction to big-government money exhibit few differences from drug dealers. The idea is to get more and more people hooked, thus assuring millions of mindless users for life. Not to mention, career employment opportunities for the kingpins and pushers. The hunters, gatherers, and entrepreneurs of free-willed, independent people are quickly being supplanted by beggars and unmotivated hoards of whining miscreants. They prefer to accept the federal government as the ultimate power over their economic and personal lives, and then mortgage their future and their childrenââ¬â¢s futures for more intoxicating quick-fixes by government. Most animals instinctually teach their young how to survive before sending them into the world. Unfortunately, our instincts have evolved into teaching dependence. We see them throwing their tantrums on Wall Street demanding even more government, the abolishment of Capitalism, and the free-enterprise system. Most act like escapees from a liberal-progressive animal farm. These mostly college- educated, life-skills challenged, young people are products of a lifelong indoctrination and addiction. The Effectiveness Of Australia s Multicultural Policy
Abstract This paper will assess the effectiveness of Australiaââ¬â¢s multicultural policy through an analysis of its traits and its capacity to create a socially cohesive society. It recognizes that multiculturalism plays an important role in national identity. In addition to this, it recognises that there are a number of factors which can impact on the level of social cohesion including political discourse and global events. This essay will claim that the new arrived migrants and refugees from Middle Eastern and African demographics are facing countless trials in successfully integrating into Australian society and this has an impact on the countryââ¬â¢s social cohesion. This essay will be supported by an interview with Cooper from Australia,â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This is also corroborated by The People of Australia (2014) who recognize that the fundamental tenets should include promoting unity, respecting diversity and focusing on the strengthening of social cohesion. Despite the evidence that Australiaââ¬â¢s multicultural policy has supported social cohesion, Forrest and Kevin Dunn (2006) state that parts of Australia still embraces a heritage of Anglo advantage and cultural supremacy. This is further supported in the interview with Cooper who claims that itââ¬â¢s difficult to position all Australians in the same boat, and there are a range of extreme opinions regarding new migrants ranging from tolerance to rejection (457321G, 2017). The Human Rights Commission (2016) claims Australia is, and has been, a highly cohesive society by any objective standard; though, the measure of this success is debatable. The measurement of social cohesion includes factors such as the degree of social integrity and equity, acceptance and sense of self-worth (Scanlon Foundation, 2015). This is contested in the interview with Fang (457321G, 2017) who claimed that she has had experience of discrimination and infrequently receives comments such as ââ¬Å"go back to your countryâ⬠. This can be a justification as to why different cultural groups remain in their individual communities. The findings from the Scanlon Foundation (2015) can be linked to dataShow MoreRelatedFactors Affecting The Business Operations And Decision Making Of The Organization Essay1399 Words à |à 6 Pagesanalysis done to an organization but can also be related to several departments altogether. Even though coca cola maintains the market leadership position and by a huge margin, the company has seen off very intense competition both in the US and globally (ALVES VA?ZQUEZ2013). There are very few players in this industry, and therefore, the nature of marketing and advertising for each of these companies is very crucial in determining their success in the market. The trends in the soft carbonated drinks industry are the increased focus on healthy products among consumers. Most of the consumers of soft drinks are cautious on the health effects of what they consume, and therefore companies are struggling to design products that are more responsive to the needs of the consumers. The selling philosophy of the company has always been attractive and eye catching. The company markets and advertises itself as bringing joy, happiness, and entertainment to the lives of consumers. Michael porter five forces analysis Threat of substitute products The substitute products that pose a threat to coca cola include soft drinks like bottled water, tea and coffee(Wang, 2015). The companies products have close substitutes and therefore making competition in this industry more intense. Threat of new entrants This is how fast new firms are able to join the industry. Its quite difficult for new firms to join the industry since the original investment requirement is quite high. The patent and copyrights also restrict entrance into this market(Yuvaraju, Subramanyam Rao, 2014). Bargaining power of suppliers The bargaining power of suppliers is determined by several factors such as the number of suppliers, their ability to form unions, and the scarcity of the commodity they are supplying. Coca cola suppliers have high bargaining power since they are very few(Gupta, 2011). The suppliers in this case are producers of raw materials used to make concentrate. Bargaining power of buyers Coca cola buyers have little bargaining power. This is because they are many and distributed in various areas making it difficult for them to form consumer associations.Few consumers cannot therefore influence demand or prices. Industry rivalry There is a lot of rivalry in the global soft drinks industry with Coca cola and Pepsi being the biggest rivals. The intense rivalry between coca cola and Pepsi has influenced the cost patterns of the two organization especially on advertising(Gertner, Rifkin, 2017). Marketing mix Product The coca cola company manufactures and distributes soft drinks. The main products for the company are the Coke soda which is the flagship product for the enterprise. The other products in the companys portfolio include Sprite, Fanta, Coke diet, coke zero, and the bottled drinking water. Price The price for coca cola products is determined based on the cost of production incurred by the bottlers in specific countries. The price is low and affordable to customers of all social class and income levels (Armstrong Kotler, 2014) Place The coca cola company uses the franchised distribution system where it licenses bottlers to whom it sells the concentrate used to make the cola products(Gertner Rifkin,2017). Promotion Coca-Cola uses a combination of advertising techniques. The company has also been using the social media advertising such as Facebook to reach more consumers Other promotional techniques used by the firm include sponsoring of events such as the FIFA world cup and the Olympics which offers the company a lot of publicity(Mubayi, 2012). 3.Challenges There are many future challenges that coca cola is expected to face. One of the challenges is increased competition from Pepsi. Pepsi has been very innovative in its products development and diversification. The company has also been very aggressive in marketing, and this, therefore, means the threat of competition is increasing every other day (Baines Fill, 2014). Another challenge that coca cola is expected to face is reduced the popularity of its products due to the consumers becoming more health conscious and increased concern about the safety standards(Hooley Piercy, 2012). The challenge of losing market share due to competition from substitute products. Recommended solutions Product diversification to keep off competition from Pepsi The company should also carry out regular market research to help understand the consumers better hence respond to their needs appropriately. The company should develop products that address the health concerns of customers better. Coca-Cola should do more aggressive marketing apart from advertising to keep the customers rooted to its products. Continuous development of new products that will help in meeting the market needs of the organization. Conclusion The market success of the coca cola brand has been majorly due to its exemplary marketing strategies. The company has been consistent in its advertising and has often used very aggressive marketing techniques to remain competitive in the market. The competition between Pepsi and Coca-cola has led to both companies becoming highly innovative, and this has resulted in the companies introducing new products in the market(Gillespie Hennessey, 2011). The marketing mix of coca cola is also perfect, and this has been very crucial in defining its position in the soft drinks industry. References Armstrong, G., Adam, S., Denize, S., Kotler, P. (2014). To make things worse Iagoââ¬â¢s cunning plans captures Othello into a downward spiral to his defeat. The sense of irony involved is regarded as a highly important technique that is repeated through out the play. As a stubborn and decisive man he was unable to discern from evil and good. This may have been due to his lack of communication with females during his military conflicts. The lack of knowledge of communication may have made it difficult for him to communicate with his wife. He may have learnt to never trust a woman in military situations but found it difficult to adjust into household situations. A fatal flaw that Othello had was the jealous nature in which he had. His high amount jealousy made it convenient for Iago to manipulate Othello through his cunning words ââ¬Å"beware, my lord, of jealous: it is the green eyed monsterâ⬠. Although he seems to be convincing Othello to be aware of jealousy he secretly wants Othello to turn jealous. By saying this it highlights the dramatic irony in which Iago challenges to destroy Othelloââ¬â¢s success. His jealous nature and with the ocular proof before him he could not resist from planning his wifeââ¬â¢s death ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢ll not expostulate with her, let her body and beauty unprovide my mind againâ⬠. This is enough to suggest Othello is a very stubborn and decisive man that does not liked to be questioned. Just like a General he will take responsibility for his actions and for his woman. His judgment and accusation that he made was unreasonable and he refused to listen to her explain to ââ¬Å"unprovide my mind againâ⬠. Othello has a constant fear for his reputation that has been put into jeopardy by his wife. As a General he is highly regarded and if anyone were to find out of this cuckold he would be shamed in front of his army. In Act 2 Scene 3 Cassio foreshadowed Othello in the lost of his reputation, ââ¬Å"I have lost the immortal part of myselfâ⬠. The loss of reputation is seen as loosing a part of oneââ¬â¢s self, Cassio was unable to bear the consequence of losing face in front of his general. He repeats the word reputation to emphasise the importance of his reputation in which he has lost. After the death of his wife in Act 5 Scene 2 he feels the shame in ââ¬Å"one that loved not wisely, but too wellâ⬠. Othello admits his weakness as a jealous man, which led him to kill himself from the truth of his actions. The trafficking of human beings from Africa to western countries was highly common in the time of Othelloââ¬â¢s leadership of his men. This is a crucial point in which reflects on the concept of Othello as an outsider. Othello as an Arabian Moor was a slave in his past years ââ¬Å"And sold to slaveryâ⬠, this may have caused his low self-esteem and unconfident image. In Elizabethan times societyââ¬â¢s attitudes towards Moors and different races were often very poor. It was clear that Moors like Othello were not welcome to a place in the Elizabethan social order. Shakespeareââ¬â¢s audience would have seen Othello and Desdemonaââ¬â¢s marriage as an outrage. It would have caused the audience to perceive this as unusual because he is a black man. Others around him may have been jealous of his success like Iago, it was too much for him to accept which led him to feel the need to destroy Othello. Brabantio was too ashamed of his daughterââ¬â¢s decision to marry a Moor. It was seen as an unjustified action, Brabrantioââ¬â¢s reaction towards the marriage was very poor. This issue relates back to the theme of reputation and loss of face amount colleagues. Brabantio had lost face in front of the Duke and all the Senators of the State because of Desdemona. ââ¬Å"Look to her, Moor, if thou hast eyes to see: She has deceived her father and may theeâ⬠, Brabantio is foreshadowing the reason of Othelloââ¬â¢s downfall. As an Arabian Othello was unaware of Venetian customs and traditions. This played a major part in the play because of the uncertainties Othello had for his wife and himself. The uncertainties lead to a low self-esteem and knowledge about his wife, without knowledge of Venetian women it was hard for him to understand Desdemona. Through out the play Othello as in outsider had unfair stereotypes placed upon him, this proved to be a challenge for him. There was a constant fear of his reputation at stake, it was possible that he did not want to remain a slave for the Venetians. Shakespeareââ¬â¢s use of a black man as a main character of the play, this suggests that he disagrees with the stereotypical white man as the superior character. If Othello was not an outsider he may have been the superior protagonist of the play and there would not have been a downfall in his success.

How the sex ratio affects obtaining a spouse
How the sex ratio affects obtaining a spouse Free Online Research Papers Question: How does the sex ratio affect advantage and/or disadvantage in obtaining a spouse? The sex ratio can play a large role in determining the number of available spouses a person could choose at any given time. According to out textbook ââ¬Å"The obvious flip side of the discussion is that sex ratios affect bargaining for a spouse.â⬠In terms of exchange theory, the sex that is lower in number becomes the more valuable sex and the sex in greater number becomes the less valuable sex. This can have huge consequences on marriage patterns. For example when there are more men than women mend tend to value women more and thus they are more likely to want to get married in order to keep their woman. The opposite is true when the sex ratio is lower. Women are seen as less valuable in this case, and so men donââ¬â¢t have the same need to keep them by marriage. Men in this case feel like there are plenty of other women available, so marriage isnââ¬â¢t necessary to keep their valued commodity. The low sex ratio in the United States today makes men, especially men who have good jobs, the more valuable sex. This gives men more to trade or bargain with. The textbook reads ââ¬Å"Moreover, not only the relative number of eligible men is salient; their employment prospects also affect womanââ¬â¢s chances for marrying ââ¬â and if they do marry, their chances of getting a good bargain.â⬠Since the man is in the better bargaining position in the United States today, he can expect more out of his potential spouse than if the sex ratio were higher. For example, the man can expect the woman to bring home a salary as well as any domestic duties she might be expected to do. The man can do this directly because women have to be competing for him, since there is not a man for every woman with the low sex ratio. Also in the United States, as people get older the sex ratio gets even lower. This makes it increasingly difficult for older women to have much bargaining power in the exchange. African American women face the lowest sex ratio at average marrying age, as by ages 25-34 the sex ratio is 88.8 as show by Table 7.1 in the textbook. The direct result of the sex ratio is the value it places on each sex. By doing this it exercises the highest form of power in society, and heavily influences the ability of either sex to obtain a spouse, giving the advantage to the sex fewest in number. The Complete Guide to AP US Government FRQs
The Complete Guide to AP US Government FRQs SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Free-response questions on the AP US Government exam are more straightforward than those on some other AP tests, but they can still be tough if you're not ready for them. In this guide, I'll lay out a step-by-step method for answering AP Government FRQs, go through a real example, and tell you where you can find additional practice resources. AP Government Free-Response Section Format The free-response section has four questions total, each of which is worth an equal percentage of your score.Youââ¬â¢ll have an hour and 40 minutes to answer these questions, which means you should spend no more than 20-25 minutes on each of them. Each question is typically worth between 5-7 raw points, and the free-response section as a whole makes up 50 percent of your score. All the free-response questions have pretty much the same format, so it's one of the simpler AP free-response sections overall. Free-response questions on this exam will ask you to integrate your knowledge of the various content areas covered by the course. This includes analyzing political events in the US, discussing examples, and demonstrating your understanding of general principles of US government and politics. You'll also be asked to examine data from charts, define key terms, and explain the roles that different parts of our government play in the political system. AP Government FRQs: Step-By-Step Solution Process This section provides a step-by-step process for answering any question on the AP US Government exam.Hereââ¬â¢s a sample question that Iââ¬â¢ll reference throughoutso that you can see how these steps might work in practice: Step 1: Read the Introduction to the Question Most questions on this test will have an introductory sentence or two before they break down into parts that you need to answer. This will give you background information and a general sense of what to expect in the rest of the question. Some questions are accompanied by images or charts (as we will see in the example section). If thatââ¬â¢s the case, you should also take a second here to review the graphics and make sure you understand what theyââ¬â¢re showing. If you want, you can read the intros to all the questions before choosing where to begin. It may help to build your confidence and improve your efficiency to start with a question thatââ¬â¢s easier for you.In the sample question, you would note from the introduction that the question is going to be dealing with the role of political parties in US government. The intro also tells us that political parties have recently gained influence in Congress while losing influence in the actual election process. Step 2: Identify (and Underline, If You Want) the Command Verb For each part of each question, youââ¬â¢re given specific instructions on the type of answer that is expected. These instructions include verbs like ââ¬Å"identifyâ⬠, ââ¬Å"explainâ⬠, ââ¬Å"describeâ⬠, ââ¬Å"defineâ⬠, and ââ¬Å"compare.â⬠Itââ¬â¢s important to be aware of exactly what the question is asking you to do so that you can earn full points. These command verbs are the first words you should zero in on as you read.If you think it will help keep you focused, you can even underline them as you go through the question. In part a of the sample question, the command verb is ââ¬Å"describe.â⬠This indicates that you need to do more than just state an important function of political parties; you need to expand on exactly what it is.In parts c and d, the command verb changes to ââ¬Å"explainâ⬠, which means youââ¬â¢ll need to include even more elaboration in your answer on how certain factors have affected party politics. Step 3: Address All the Potential Points After finding the command verb in the part of the question youââ¬â¢re answering, take note of how many examples or descriptions you need to provide. Each of them will almost always correspond to a point in your raw score for the question.Be careful to answer the question thoroughly but directly, addressing all of these points in a way that will make it easy for graders to assess your response. You donââ¬â¢t need to write an essay for these free-response questions. Just go straight for the answer to avoid ambiguity. For part a of the sample question, youââ¬â¢re asked to describe two important functions of political parties, which means that part a is almost certainly worth two points. You need to make sure you provide two distinct functions and make it easy for the grader to award points foryour answer. If you go through the rest of the question, it looks like there are five raw points available in total:two for part a, one for part b, two for part c, and one for part d.Write your answer carefully so you can scoop up all of them! Step 4: Reread Your Answer Finally, reread what you wrote to ensure that it makes sense and addresses the question completely.Did you give the correct number of descriptions/examples/identifications? Does your answer directly respond to what the question is asking overall? If youââ¬â¢re satisfied, move onto the next part of the question and return to step 2! AP Government FRQ Example Now, Iââ¬â¢ll go through the answers to a real AP Government free-response question from the 2013 exam to show you what your responses should look like: First, letââ¬â¢s consider the chart and the introductory sentence for this question. It looks like weââ¬â¢re comparing the distribution of judicial appointments by gender and ethnicity for two different presidents. For part a, you are asked to describe one way in which the judicial appointments of Obama and Bush were similar. You might say that in both cases more than half of the appointees were white, with Obama at 59 percent and Bush at 82 percent white. You could also say that the percentage of Hispanic nominees was similar for each president or that in both cases Asian American nominees were the rarest of all the ethnic groups. You would earn one point for this part of the question if you included either of those responses. For part b, you are asked to describe two differences between the presidents in their judicial appointments. One difference you might point out is that a significantly larger percentage of Obamaââ¬â¢s nominees were women - almost half compared to Bushââ¬â¢s mere 22 percent.A second difference is that Obama appointed a greater percentage of candidates from racial minorities. For example, 22 percent of his appointees were African American as compared to Bushââ¬â¢s 7 percent. You could earn two points for part b, one for each difference between the two sets of nominees. Part c asks you to explain how party affiliation impacts judiciary nominations. You might say that the President often chooses nominees with similar views who will adhere to his policy preferences. This typically means people who belong to the same political party as the President. You could also say that the President tends to choose nominees who will make his partyââ¬â¢s electoral base happy and lead to victories in future elections.Part c was worth one point. Finally, part d asks you to describe what a President can do to increase the likelihood that his federal court nominees will be confirmed.Possible answers to part d include: Consulting with the Senate/using senatorial courtesy Selecting a moderate candidate in the first place Properly vetting candidates and choosing people who are highly qualified You would earn one point for this part of the question if you described any one of these methods.Notice that this question was worth a total of five raw points, which is probably the lowest raw point value youââ¬â¢ll see on any of the AP US Government free-response questions. However, a lower raw point value doesnââ¬â¢t mean itââ¬â¢s worth any less in your final scaled score; each free-response question is equally important on this test. Even people who make extremely important decisions, like federal judges, are appointed partially based on their political favorability. How to Practice AP US Government Free-Response Questions There are several resources that you can use to hone your skills in answering AP Government FRQs. BUSINESS LAW Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
BUSINESS LAW - Essay Example In our case, Colinââ¬â¢s Computer (CC) is a computer garage offering repair services for computers belonging to other organizations, in return for a monthly payment. Colinââ¬â¢s Computers advertises its services through their website and through a local daily, which reaches the intended organizations that have the need for Computer repair, among them, Geoffââ¬â¢s Gym (GG). After receiving the information regarding CCââ¬â¢s services and the discount offer they are giving to their new customers, GG decides to go for the services and fulfill the necessary conditions that were attached by CC, so that it could benefit from the offering. However, as it turned out, GG never received the repair services for its computers from CC, which in essence did not receive the letter that was to be sent either through mail, text or post; to confirm the offer. The occurrences that follows after GG finds the services of CC and opts to purchase them are the subject of this discussion, with a f ocus on whether a contract occurred, who is liable for the breach of the contract, and whether the contract is enforceable through a court of law, if at all it occurred. ... reat, it invited the organizations in need of computer repair services to make an offer, which would in turn be accepted by CC, based on the fulfillment of certain conditions. The conditions attached for an offer to become complete were; that the organization in need of the services would contact CC either through mail, post or text before 8th June and inform them of the definitive date the organization would like the services to commence. On its side, GG posted a letter on 3rd June and followed the letter up, with a call to confirm to CC that the letter of offer had been posted. However, it turned out that the letter was not receive by CC, that is why CC did not go to offer the repair services to GGââ¬â¢s computers. The facts of this case prove that an offer was made, but the corresponding requirement of acceptance did not occur (Simpson, 1987). According to the ruling of the case in Partridge Vs Crittenden (1968), the display of goods by the seller does not amount to an offer, b ut rather an invitation to treat. The same applies to an advertisement made by the seller. Therefore, even when GG would want to enforce the contract based on the fact that they had accepted the terms made by CC, by posting a letter before the stated date, and even went ahead to follow it up with a phone call, just to confirm that they had posted the letter, they are not in a position to do this, because the advertisement made by CC on its websites and a local daily, regarding its offer of computer repair services, did not amount to an offer, but a mere invitation to treat (Koffman & Macdonald, 2007). Therefore, contrary to the belief by GG that they had met the requirement of the contract and thus CC was liable to compensate them for the breach of the contract, the reality is different. GG
